The OpenEDG Digital Literacy Certification: A New Standard for Foundational Digital Competencies
OpenEDG is proud to introduce the Digital Literacy Certification, a credential that validates essential digital skills needed to navigate today’s technology-driven world. Covering key areas such as hardware and software concepts, networking, digital communication, cybersecurity, and responsible technology use, this certification provides a structured way for individuals to demonstrate competency in fundamental digital skills.

The certification covers key topics such as:
- File management and application usage
- Networking and internet fundamentals
- Digital communication and collaboration tools
- Cybersecurity awareness and risk mitigation
- Responsible digital engagement, including the environmental and health impacts of technology use
"In an era where digital skills are crucial for both professional and personal success, the OpenEDG Digital Literacy Certification provides a structured and reliable way to demonstrate competency in fundamental technology areas," said William McNeice, Head of Content & Quality at OpenEDG. "This certification validates the essential skills candidates need to confidently interact with digital tools and environments."
Candidates have the flexibility to certify their knowledge by either taking one comprehensive Digital Literacy Exam (DL-00-101) that covers all four domains or four smaller, domain-specific mini-exams, each aligned with one of the corresponding courses:
- DL-00-A01 – Digital Awareness
- DL-00-B01 – Using Computer & Mobile Devices
- DL-00-C01 – Creating, Communicating, Collaborating
- DL-00-D01 – Safety & Security
The exams can be taken independently or as part of the full digital literacy path. Candidates who successfully complete all four mini-exams will also be awarded the full Digital Literacy Certification and a recognized digital badge issued via Credly.
The certification aligns with four free courses available on Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad) and soon on the Edube platform. Inspired by the DigComp 2.2 framework, these courses emphasize interactive exercises and real-world applications to ensure practical skills development. The Digital Literacy Exam and mini-exams are now available in the Edube Store.
